Color conception

Ester Krumbachová worked with moods and the speech of images. She was able to see an entire film or theater production as a composition of colors in time. She writes about this in one of her texts: “Actors don’t stand in one place, so colors and forms don’t stand in one place either.” Colors were her distinctive language through which she communicated, in parallel with the language of words and forms. She used them to shape a production’s overall atmosphere, psychologize characters, support the narrative line, and link important details, motifs, and messages. Her use of colors was alternately symbolic, emotional, psychological, constitutive of meaning, logical, aesthetically refined, and austere.
